Are stable doors secure?
Absolutely! There is no reason why stable doors would be any less secure than a standard design, despite having more moving parts and components. As long as your stable door is made from high quality materials and is installed correctly, most stable doors lock together when you close them and function normally. If you want your stable door to be extra secure, it is possible to fit separate locks for the individual door panels, as well as a bolt that secures both parts together. Talk to an expert today to find out more about how our engineers at M Powell make our stable doors as safe and secure as possible.
How does a stable door work?
A stable door is made up of two separate parts that create the door as a whole. The top and bottom section can open and close independently, giving you more flexibility over how you would like to open up your inside space. Originally designed for horses in stables, the doors will enable you to increase the amount of light and air circulation in your property without having to open them fully. This increases your security and is ideal if you have young children or pets that shouldn’t go outside unattended. When our installation experts fit your stable door into your home, they won’t leave your property until you’re fully satisfied and understand how they operate.
Do stable doors open in or out?
It’s down to your own personal preference. At Britannia, we allow our customers creative freedom over their new windows and doors and it’s up to you to decide how you would like them to operate. Choose whether you want your stable doors to open inwards or outwards and we’ll manufacture them in our factory to your individual requirements. Some people prefer their stable door to open inwards as if opened fully the other way, it would end up blocking a window. More commonly, people opt for their stable doors to open outwards as they can be pinned back without causing any obstruction in your inside space. But it all depends on what option better suits you and your home!

Yes! Our PVCu stable doors are highly secure and energy efficient. We manufacture them in our factory near Bristol to your specific requirements, so they fit your home perfectly. If you choose to finish your PVCu stable doors with a wood-finish, they will look almost identical to actual wood and maintain their rustic feel and traditional aesthetic, while giving you all the performance of PVCu. Why have a stable door?
Stable doors are both practical and aesthetically pleasing, as their rustic and traditional look will complement any home. They are a popular choice in both rural and urban areas in the UK, as the benefit of having increased ventilation and light into your inside space without having to open the door fully is incredibly appealing. You can lock the bottom door shut while keeping the top section open to ensure your children and pets are kept safe inside, but without shutting out a cool breeze or natural daylight. If you are thinking about installing a stable door but have some questions specific to your property, get in contact with an advisor today.
Can you get stable doors with windows?
Absolutely! At Britannia, we give you the freedom to decide whether or not you’d like to install your stable doors with a glazed panel. The most common style is to have glass panels in the top half of the door so that when closed, you can still maximise the amount of light shining into your inside space. Installing a window in your stable door won’t make it any less secure, as we use toughened glass in all our external doors to ensure you’re kept safe all year round. If you have a design in mind or are looking for some inspiration, contact us today to find out how we can help you make your stable door as unique as you are!
