Replacement Conservatory Roofs
Is your conservatory in need of a makeover? If your conservatory has stopped serving as a multifunctional space for the whole family to enjoy all year round, it’s time for an upgrade. We have a number of different options available for every budget, so you can wave goodbye to unwelcome draughts and high energy bills.
All our conservatories are built to your specific requirements in our state-of-the-art factory near Bristol. If you’re not looking to break the bank, then our modern, highly insulative multi-chamber polycarbonate is the most cost-effective way of upgrading your existing conservatory roof. Your conservatory will better retain the heat during the winter and keep you cool in the summer with minimal hassle, as all that will be required is a quick and easy replacement.
Glass conservatory roof replacements can make a significant difference to the performance of your existing conservatory. Our high-quality glass uses the latest technology and can now reflect up to 78% of the sun’s warmth and offers U values as low as 0.8, which is incredibly insulative. This combination will mean you can reduce your energy bills during the winter months as it will keep the cold temperatures outside and the warm air in, as well as keeping you cool during those hotter days.
Our self-cleaning glass means that your roof can be easily maintained in every season, without having to pay a window cleaner. The glass has a thin coating of titanium dioxide which makes it incredibly flat and stops dirt from sticking to it. When it rains, the surface is so smooth the water literally sheets off so fast that water droplets are unable to form. A UV filter within the coating of the glass also helps to break down any excess debris, which in turn washes off in the wet weather.
If you’re looking to tick every box when it comes to your upgrade, we recommend opting for a full or partially tiled solution. Our lightweight structure and tiles often weigh less than an existing glass roof, so can be retro-fitted. Choose from our new Livin Roof and Ultrasky product range as you’re able to pick which panels to have glazed depending on the amount of light and heat you want to let into your living space. This essentially provides you with a modern glazed living room at a fraction of the cost of an extension.

Can I replace my conservatory roof with a tiled roof?
Contrary to popular belief, our tiled conservatory roofs are extremely light and can be used to replace an existing glass or polycarbonate roof. We would need to do a proper inspection, however, to check that your existing structure has the necessary support in place. In most cases, it’s absolutely no problem at all and a tiled roof may work better for you and your lifestyle. If your conservatory meets current building regulations, you will not have to apply for planning permission either. Custom-built to your specific measurements, we can make tiled roofs to fit the size of your current conservatory and our engineers can even install roof windows if you don’t want to completely cut out the glass!
Do I need to replace my conservatory roof?
There isn’t a specific best-before date for your conservatory roof and each case will be different, depending on your environment and how much they have to endure. However, if your existing conservatory is over 15 years old, you may start to notice some telltale signs that mean your roof may need replacing. Look out for:
- Moss or algae growing on the roof
- Increased noise pollution
- Draughts or cold spots
- Reduced energy efficiency

Does insulating a conservatory roof work?
If you feel that your existing conservatory roof doesn’t do well in keeping the cold temperatures outside and the warm air inside your home, then you may consider insulating it. We don’t offer this service as it isn’t efficient and not very durable. We recommend replacing your roof with thermally efficient glass or a tiled roof, both of which come with a 10 year guarantee. If you want to find out more, get in touch with a member of our team today.
What is the best roof for a conservatory?
It depends on your personal preference! As construction technology has advanced, there are a number of different options available if you’re looking to replace your conservatory roof. Polycarbonate is our most affordable solution, but it’s not very durable. We recommend a toughened roof glass instead, which will last a lot longer. At Britannia, we also treat the glass to enhance its insulative properties and to decrease the glare from the sun. If you are looking for that added protection from the sun during the hotter months, then our tiled roof options provide more shade as well as increased heat efficiency. You can also add a lantern roof window to still maximise on the amount of light entering your living space.
All we would need to do is inspect your roof to see if the roof bars are capable of withstanding the weight of glass and also check if top caps are available, if it is only the roof that is being upgraded.
