Are uPVC doors better than wood?
UPVC doors are our most cost-effective solution as they are easy to mass produce. Wooden doors require more skills and craftsmanship from our expert engineers so take longer to manufacture, making them a pricer option.
Both doors are secure and are built with the latest technology, ensuring your home is kept safe all year round. UPVC doors are easy to maintain, whereas wooden doors are more prone to warping over time and require more upkeep to preserve their aesthetic.
Can you replace uPVC door seals?
The seals built into our uPVC doors ensure your home is well insulated and protected from the weather. If you notice that the rubber strip has come away from your door, or even completely fallen off, this is a sign that you need to replace it.
This is very easy to do and you will be able to do it yourself. Simply order a replacement online which is the right size in proportion to your door. Remove the editing seal and follow the instructions for installing your new uPVC door seal. Test it by opening and closing your front door: it should do this smoothly and not let in any unwelcome draughts.
How much does a new uPVC door cost?
UPVC doors are a popular choice amongst our customers and are our most cost-effective solution. The exact price, however, depends on a number of different variables. All our uPVC doors are panelled so include toughened double glazing as standard. If you want to add any of our high-performance glass options, like triple glazing, Stadip Silence or decorative glass, this will increase the final cost.
The door size can also affect the price: if you have a larger opening for your door you may need side panels, which can add to the cost. If you’re opting for a door which is taller than the standard size (6 feet 6 inches) then you can also expect to pay more.
How long do uPVC doors last?
UPVC doors can last up to 40 years! As they are made from a type of plastic, they are incredibly durable and easy to maintain. Their lifespan, however, does depend on the quality of the door’s manufacture. At M Powell, all our uPVC doors are designed to last and therefore won’t degrade or become damaged by day to day use.
If you want to ensure your uPVC door lasts for as long as possible, keep it well maintained by repairing any damage, oiling the hinges and make sure the lock and door handle operate smoothly. UPVC doors are easy to clean and simply require a wipe down with a clean cloth to remove any marks or excess dirt.
Is uPVC safe?
Absolutely! Our customers’ safety is a top priority here at M Powell. UPVC is a sort of rigid PVC and is designed to be inflexible: it is made by fusing vinyl polymer with chlorine. This unique combination means that uPVC is incredibly strong, thermally efficient and highly functional.
UPVC meets UK safety regulations for all building materials, meaning it has undergone rigorous testing to ensure maximum safety. However, you must ensure you recycle your uPVC door properly once you need to replace it, as it can’t be burned in the same way a wooden door can.
How long are uPVC doors guaranteed for?
Our uPVC doors are guaranteed for 10 years and if properly looked after, can last for a lot longer than that. We provide a guarantee with our uPVC doors to assure you of the safety of our doors: they are expected to provide security and function properly for at least 10 years.
Some uPVC doors may have a shorter lifespan due to the finish. For example a wood grain appearance can be less water resistant and therefore may need replacing sooner. To find out more information on our 10 year guarantee, contact us today.
