How do you open a sliding patio door?
Easy to operate, our sliding doors have been designed to open smoothly but remain secure when shut. To open them, all that is required is to turn the door handle to a certain degree to release the door, then simply slide open as far as you want. The door sits on rollers so is easy to open and close, regardless of the size of the door.
Our expert engineers will install your new patio doors so that they fit perfectly and won’t leave the property until you are satisfied. They will also show you how to open, close and lock your new patio doors safely and securely.
What is a lift and slide patio door?
Lift and slide patio doors use a different opening mechanism to the classic sliding style. Traditional sliding doors are always on a sliding track, whereas to fully close a lift and slide patio door you lift it off the track, hence the name! This secures the door in the closed position, so that you protect your home from unwelcome draughts and stay insulated. To open a lift and slide door, you have to turn the handle and lift the door slightly to place it back on the track before rolling it open smoothly. You can also lower the door off the track at any point so that the door is locked in that position.
With our aluminium range of lift and slide patio doors, we can take sizes up to 5400mm wide using only two panes of glass!
Are sliding patio doors easy to break into?
Despite being made mostly of glass, patio doors are incredibly difficult to break into by an unwanted intruder. Double or triple glazing is very difficult to smash as it’s so thick and all our patio doors are made from thermally-toughened glass. At Britannia, your safety is our top priority and we fit toughened glass as standard on all doors and windows below 800mm from floor height to give you extra security.
We also use high-tech locking systems on all our exterior doors so that you can relax and unwind in your home knowing your loved ones are kept safe all year round.
All our products meet the high standards of the Police-led initiative Secured By Design, which aims to reduce burglaries through innovative design and extra security measures in the home. If you want to find out more about how we can help keep your home safe, get in contact with an expert advisor today.
How wide is a two panel sliding glass door?
If you’re considering investing in some sliding patio doors, then it’s important to consider how wide an opening you will need. Ideal for smaller properties, sliding doors don’t take up any extra space as the doors don’t swing inwards or outwards like a traditional door would. This does mean, however, that only half of the door can open at any one time.
The standard size for a patio door is around 1.8m (6ft) which would create an opening of 90cm (3ft) wide.
At Britannia, we custom build your patio doors to your specific measurements, whether that’s to fit in a small space or to make a statement by having a sliding glass door that makes up the full outside wall. Just contact us today to get a free, no obligation quote and make your sliding glass door dreams a reality.
Are patio doors energy efficient?
It depends on the quality of the door installed.Look out for A-rated glass with a low U-value; the lower the U-value the less heat it allows to escape.
At M Powell, we manufacture our patio doors using high-quality materials so that they’re as energy efficient as possible. Opt for either double or triple glazing for extra insulation and choose from high quality PVCu or an aluminum frame. All our doors are designed with an inbuilt multi-locking system too, for added security.
How much does a patio door cost?
It can depend on a number of factories, like the type of material used, the size they need to be and the type of glass you choose. As a general rule, aluminium will cost more than PVCu, the larger the door the bigger the price and double glazing is less expensive than triple glazing. If you’re struggling to make a decision or have any questions, get in touch with an advisor today so we can ensure you create the right patio doors for you and your home.
