Lantern Roof Conservatories
Looking to make your house stand out from your neighbours? Then a lantern roof conservatory is a statement design that will add a touch of class and glamour to your home. It offers a modern way to create a living space that will not only look stunning, but is also highly practical.
Defined by their ‘wedding cake’ effect, a lantern roof conservatory is achieved through two-tiers of conservatory roof that are constructed on different levels. The two levels are separated by a row of windows, resulting in a stylish and understated finish which will complement any property.
The classic look of our lantern roof conservatory makes it perfect for a period property, as it boasts a heritage look typical of high class Victorian and Edwardian properties. However, let your creativity flow as our lantern roof conservatory is available in a wide range of designs, meaning we are able to create a conservatory that is perfect for you and your home.
The lantern roof design enables you to flood your room with light. Even when the skies are grey, a lantern roof conservatory remains bright all year round. This creates a feeling of space and allows you to be closer to nature in the comfort of your own home.

A Lantern Roof conservatory uses fewer bars to let in even more light. With an extended eaves beam, rather than a flat roof, the internal pelmet and external cornice create a stunning orangery roof style.
A decorative cornice is used outside to hide the guttering and create beautiful sight lines.
The internal insulated pelmet will enable you to enjoy better lighting and thermal performance. You can even opt for integrated spotlights and speakers to enhance your experience.

What is a lantern conservatory?
A lantern roof is a square or rectangular space in your ceiling that has glass panes in the middle that are pitched to emulate a roof shape. A lantern roof conservatory is a great way to increase the amount of light in your home without having to commit to a full glass roof. They can be installed in an already-existing room in your house (as long as it has a flat roof) or alternatively, you can use them as part of a sturdier conservatory extension which has a solid roof. A decorative cornice is used as an elegant solution to hiding the guttering and creates a beautiful view of the sky, as well as letting the light flood into your inside space – even on those grey days!
Do roof lanterns let in more light?
Yes! Roof lanterns are an excellent way of maximising the amount of natural light in your home. Even when it’s grey and miserable outside, you’ll find that you won’t need to turn on your lights or lamps until it gets dark. In fact, a roof lantern lets in around three times more light than a conventional window, depending on its size.
You don’t even have to worry about your roof lantern letting in too much heat during the summer, as we offer different glass options that filter out UV to protect your furnishings, or slightly tinted glass to reduce the glare.
Do roof lanterns lose heat?
At Britannia, we manufacture all our products with the latest tech and high quality materials. Our roof lantern conservatories are no exception. Yes, they may lose a little more heat than an insulated tile roof, but we always use double-glazed glass so that it is as thermally efficient as possible. If you are looking ro reduce your heating bills even further, opt for triple glazing in your roof lantern, which is a perfect solution for colder climates. All our roof lanterns have internal insulated pelmets which will ensure that heat loss is kept to a minimum. A roof lantern is one of the most energy efficient ways to let natural light into your home.
How do you clean a roof lantern?
It’s best to use a long handled window cleaning product. All you need to do is apply warm soapy water that will get rid of any debris or dirt stuck to the glass. It’s a good idea to clean your windows when it isn’t outside, as this will enable the glass to dry without forming any streaks.
If you don’t like the idea of manually cleaning because of the location of your roof lantern, we offer self-cleaning glass which will save you time and energy. Get in touch with an advisor today and see whether our self-cleaning glass would be the best option for you.
