Are composite doors good?
Composite doors are a great home investment, offering security, thermal efficiency, and an adaptable design, ensuring that you choose the perfect door for you and your home.
Our engineers manufacture our composite doors in a high-heat, high-pressure environment that results in a product that is incredibly durable and resistant to the elements. This is important as it makes composite doors resistant to naturally-occurring stressors (such as heavy rains and winds) and their strength makes them extremely difficult to break into in comparison to other front door solutions.
You will also see a return on your investment as our composite doors are energy efficient, meaning they’ll help to reduce your household bills for years to come. If you want to add personality to your property, choose from an impressive range of colours, textures and designs to create a door that you’ll love.
Are composite doors cheaper than uPVC?
UPVC is the most cost-effective material as they require fewer materials and are therefore easier to produce. They also have more glazing options than our composite doors and you have the option to install decorative glass or high-performance glass so your inside space isn’t too dark.
On the other hand, composite doors are more energy efficient than uPVC doors. This can help you spend less on your household bills over time.
What is the best material for a front door?
Wooden doors – if you’re looking to maintain the traditional charm of your home, wooden doors add a timeless look to any property. Highly adaptable, wooden doors come in all shapes and sizes. However, wood is more vulnerable to weather damage over time and requires more maintenance to keep that ‘new door feeling’.
Composite doors – these doors are designed to be incredibly robust, durable and highly secure. Made from a mixture of materials that are fused together, we manufacture our composite doors with CFC-free foam which will insulate your home and keep your energy bills low during the winter months.
PVCu doors – if you don’t want to break the bank, these are our most cost-effective option and are a popular choice for front doors. Highly adaptable, you can create a PVCu door that is to your personal taste and that will complement your home.
How long should a composite door last?
The strongest composite doors can last decades! We manufacture our composite doors with 100% CFE-free polyurethane foam, which is completely water-resistant and is very thermally resistant. Timber core composite doors have a tendency to warp when exposed to the wet British weather so we prefer using materials that are more durable.
When properly looked after, our composite doors have the ability to last a lifetime. All it takes is oiling the hinges and wiping the door down to remove any excess dirt from time to time; pretty simple!
What does a composite door mean?
A composite door is made from a variety of different materials, which makes them incredibly strong and durable. Some composite doors are manufactured with a timber core, but we use 100% CFE-free foam as we’ve found that timber-core composite doors can warm and bow over time when exposed to the elements. Composite doors are specially designed for strength, security and durability and you can also opt for weather-protected hinges and high-tech security locks for maximum safety.
What should I look for when buying a front door?
It depends on what factors you want to prioritise. If you want a door that is going to be more of a statement piece, then wooden doors offer a timeless and classic look. Composite doors and PVCu doors also allow you creative freedom as they come in an impressive range of colours and designs.
Another important variable to consider is safety, thermal efficiency and durability. At M Powell, we manufacture all our doors in our state-of-the-art-factory using the highest quality materials and the latest modern technology.
