Casement Windows

  • Highly versatile, our casement windows will add a touch of class and elegance to any home. Both stylish and practical, a casement window is attached to a frame by one or more hinges and opens outwards, away from the home. They can be top or side hung and are one of our most popular windows.

Top hung casement windows have hinges at the top and open from the bottom of the frame. These make them ideal for wetter climates as if accidentally left open, they protect the inside of your home by blocking out the rain. Side hung windows are excellent for ventilation, as they can be angled to catch a cool breeze so that your rooms are kept fresh during the warmer months.

Common questions

What is a casement window?

A casement window is attached to a frame by one or more hinges at either the top, side or bottom. Highly versatile, they are a popular choice amongst UK homeowners. Choose from either single windows, paired windows or any variety of casement windows within the same frame. Their friction hinges mean they are easy to operate while protecting the casement window from a sudden gust of wind.

Commonly hinged from the side, you can also choose top-hung casement windows which are excellent at blocking out the rain if left open accidentally. As the hinge is at the top of the frame and the handle is at the bottom, they open away from your home and are often installed in kitchens and bathrooms.

Are casement windows more energy efficient?

Casement windows are highly energy efficient due to their innovative design: these windows have a strong airtight seal enforced by the window sash pressing against the frame when closed. This stops the warm air escaping and the cold outside air from getting in, naturally insulating your home. This means that you’ll be less likely to turn up the thermostat and more likely to see a reduction in your household bills.

For maximum thermal efficiency, our casement windows can be created with double or triple glazing.

What is the difference between a casement window and a picture window?

Casement windows are typically smaller and made up of multiple sashes or panes. Attached to the window frame by hinges, they are a good choice for homeowners who value operability as they are easy to open and close. This also allows for increased ventilation and if your casement window is top-hung, it will open away from your home using a handle at the bottom of the frame, protecting you from the rain if left open by accident.

Picture windows, on the other hand, are fixed and cannot open. Instead, they maximise on beautiful unobstructed views of your surroundings.

Are casement windows secure?

Our casement windows inbuilt multi-locking system makes them incredibly secure, as well as their special hook shaped locks that insert directly into their frame. These layers of protection make it extremely hard for an unwanted intruder to break in or pry them open.

At M Powell, our casement windows meet the high standards of the Official Police Security Initiative. This added benefit means you can relax and unwind in your home with your loved ones, knowing you’re all kept safe and secure all year round.

How much do casement windows cost?

It depends! There is no fixed price as it takes into consideration a number of different variables, like the material used, the time taken to install, as well as how much work needs to be done to fit the window.

If you don’t want to break the bank, then UPVC casement windows are the most affordable. If you’re looking for a different finish, such as timber, flush casement or aluminium, then you will have to dig a little deeper into your wallet. Are casement windows worth it?

If you’re looking to upgrade your windows and are on the hunt for a solution that maximises on light, ventilation and easy to operate, then our casement windows are worth it! Wave goodbye to stuffy rooms as our casement windows will ensure your home as a fresh feeling to it during the warmer months. Also a great natural insulator, casement windows are built with compression seal technology that fits snugly to the window sash, creating an airtight seal which prevents warm air escaping and cold air from getting in.
