How long do aluminium windows last?
As with all windows, their durability depends on a number of different variables. If properly maintained and looked after, aluminium windows will last a lot longer. Their lifespan also depends on the area they’re installed in and the amount of wear and tear they endure. Taking all of these factors into account, aluminium windows are one of the most resilient you will find on the market and can last decades with minimal upkeep. Simply wipe down the frames often and hoover them to get rid of any outside debris or dust. If they are looked after well, they could last up to 40 years before they need replacing.
Where are aluminium windows used?
Aluminium windows are commonly found in commercial properties, schools and colleges due to their strength and durability. Saying that, they are becoming increasingly popular for modern homes or for renovating period properties. Their slimline look adds a touch of class to any home and their contemporary feel does not compromise on the quality of their performance.
Highly durable, after their installation you won’t have to worry about replacing your aluminium windows for years to come. If you are looking for a more cost-effective alternative, you’ll find our modern uPVC windows offer many of the same benefits but at a more affordable price.
What are the benefits of aluminium windows?
They are lightweight, slimline and durable! They also allow for smaller frames and a larger surface area of glass to create unobstructed views of your natural surroundings whilst maximising on the amount of natural light entering your home. Easy to operate, they require little maintenance and when cared for properly – just wipe them down every now and again – they have the potential to last decades.
Aluminium windows are a good choice if you are looking to enhance your home’s aesthetic as their slimline appearance adds a touch of elegance and class.
Are aluminium windows better than uPVC?
It depends on your personal preference as both materials have their benefits. UPVC windows are our most cost-effective option and are manufactured using a type of tough plastic. With advances in modern technology, uPVC windows are highly secure and insulative.
On the other hand, aluminium windows are incredibly strong and pleasing to the eye. The window frames are normally thinner so you will be able to increase the surface area of the glass panel, maximising on the amount of light entering your home but also providing unobstructed views of your beautiful surroundings.

Are aluminium windows energy efficient?
Simply, yes! Although aluminium is a metal, modern technology has advanced its insulative qualities by allowing aluminium windows to be manufactured with what is called a thermal break. This means that between the outside metal and the inside metal, we install a non-conductive material throughout the frame. This keeps the cold air out and the warm air inside, so that you’re kept cosy in your home all year round.
The energy efficiency of your aluminium windows also depends on the type of glazing you decide to install; double or triple glazing will add another insulative layer and will help to reduce your household bills even further.
Do aluminium windows rust?
A major benefit of aluminium windows is that, unlike many other metals, it doesn’t rust. The metal itself is prone to corrosion but at Britannia we ensure all our aluminium window frames are coated with a powder that prevents this from happening. This means that your aluminium windows will last for decades after their installation without any signs of degradation in appearance or strength, as long as they’re properly cared for. All that is required in terms of their maintenance is a wipe down from time to time and hoovering any debris off the frames.
